Progressive Division

Preparatory Division (Ages 8–11)

The Preparatory Division at Allegro Ballet Academy is designed for young dancers aged 8 to 11, providing them with a rich, well-rounded foundation in classical ballet. Students will engage in ballet technique classes, conditioning, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and ensemble rehearsal opportunities eligible at age 9+. At this age level, we focus on personalized attention, ensuring each dancer builds the technical skills, strength, and artistry needed to flourish. Through these varied class offerings and ensemble experiences, dancers will develop a strong, versatile foundation that prepares them for future ballet training and performance. Dancers participating in ensemble rehearsals and choreography will be eligible and invited to compete at ABA’s selected YAGP venues, as well as the Universal Ballet Competition, offering them valuable performance experience and exposure to the wider ballet community. At this level, eligible dancers will also be invited to participate in Allegro Ballet Academy’s end-of-year production performance, showcasing their growth and artistry on stage.

Intermediate & Advanced Division (Ages 12+)

The Intermediate and Advanced Division at Allegro Ballet Academy is crafted for dedicated dancers ages 12 and up, providing a challenging and inspiring training environment. Students will engage in advanced ballet technique, conditioning, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and ensemble rehearsals. At this level, dancers receive focused, individualized instruction that refines their technique, artistry, and performance skills. Dancers are encouraged to develop resilience, creativity, and a strong work ethic as they prepare for advanced performance opportunities. Additionally, dancers participating in ensemble rehearsals and choreography will be eligible and invited to compete at ABA’s selected YAGP venues, as well as the Universal Ballet Competition, offering them exceptional performance experience and exposure to the broader ballet world. At this level, eligible dancers will also be invited to participate in Allegro Ballet Academy’s end-of-year production performance, showcasing their growth and artistry on stage.

  • For Allegro Ballet Academy, please note that the age level allowed for ensemble participation is 9 and up. ABA faculty reserves the right, upon evaluation, to adjust a dancer’s level based on their development and skill set. Dancer placement and eligibility for each level is based on their age as of the start of the fall season. For example, a dancer who is 7 and will turn 8 by September 1st, 2026 will be placed in the Preparatory Division (ages 8 to 11). Additionally, according to our competition guidelines, dancers participating in a solo at competitions must meet the age criteria as of January 1st of the competition year. In addition, dancers must also meet the appropriate age of 9 by January 1st of the competition year to participate in Allegro Ballet Academy’s ensemble group offerings at selected competition venues.

Elective Open Classes

Elective open classes offer a flexible, lower-commitment option, allowing dancers to enrich their training while balancing other personal pursuits or activities. This pathway provides the freedom to explore diverse styles and build technique without the pressure of a formal competition track. All dancers participating in ABA’s elective open class offerings have the flexibility to immerse themselves in all of Allegro Ballet Academy’s class offerings including Preparatory & Intermediate/Advanced Division levels (per age requirement). They can train in advanced ballet technique, conditioning, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary, all within an intentional structured environment. This pathway allows dancers to fully develop their artistry, technique, and confidence, without the requirement to compete. Whether dancers aspire to perform at the highest competitive level or prefer to focus on personal growth, they will receive the individualized attention and support needed to thrive in their dance journey.
